Suhas Roy is known for her depictions of alluring women who are distant unattainable and therefore inciting desire of unrequited variety. This canvas is a great example. The browns and sepias hark old photographs the lack of white in her kohl-lined eyes keep her innermost intentions to herself. The brightest part of the canvas the delicately shaded highlight on her forehead conjures up her loneliness in a darkened room. The Bengali literature is replete with everyday heroes pining away for their unrequited lady loves who are cloistered and above and beyond their lovers station. Suhas Roys canvases bring them alive.
